A precious scene of the South African Cape Buffalo family together on the savannah. Although I asked the female how old she was, she declined saying, "A lady never reveals her real age." The adults are a minimum of 6 years old if not 8 years or more, indicated by the horns fusing together in front to form one continuous bone shield. Plus females calve beginning at 5 years.
Weighing up to 1 ton (910 kg) or more, adult cape buffalos are one of the most dangerous of wildlife species. Although wounded, they are known to track down their hunter. Their horns grow up to a length of 5 feet+ (160 cm+), and are superb weapons.
